Hello Gamers, a day ago, the highly anticipated Spider-Man 2 was released and it has been an amazing experience thus far. To be honest, it is actually hard to believe how incredible this game is, up until the point you begin to see the signs. Subtle signs of wokeness across the entire narrative, and once you see they can’t be unseen. While the core gameplay feels like an animated movie at times, not all of Spider-Man 2 is created with all gamers in mind. There is an underlying narrative being force fed to the audience through subtle art changes and side quests that appear over time, a reflection of Insomniacs vision for the future. Key character art has been changed, the idea to push out Peter Parker as the main spider man in favor of Miles for racial reasons, and hidden gay missions are riddled throughout the story and shatter any kind of immersion that the game has to offer.

While my initial impressions of the game were positive in the beginning, I began to notice weird things throughout the game which made me question what was going on. Presentation of the game was incredible and honestly there are times when you feel you can live out your inner most spider man fantasy web swinging across New York City, however, things took a turn when I realized what was actually going on. Most notably the man-ification of Mary Jane from the first game. For some reason the developers thought people wouldn’t notice they gave this (originally attractive female character) a huge redesigned jawline and masculine traits.

Insomniac is such a phenomenal developer and I wanted to write a post about their work on both the first Spider-Man and Miles Morales games when they first came out, just to praise their level of quality in both of those titles. Spider-Man 2 is no exception. The bar has been raised extremely high and this high standard is just rare with the exception of similar titles from Insomniac or a few other PlayStation exclusives. The most impressive part about all this is simply how much attention to detail there is on every facet of the project. There are improvements across the board, from performance, to visuals, storytelling, and new gameplay mechanics that build on the original (which are all weaved into the story). None of the suit upgrades or gadgets feel disconnected or unnecessary. It all works together to just make a better overall gameplay experience, and that’s something I feel most titles are missing out on these days.

To me its games like this that make gaming worth investing in, the experience no other games can provide, and stories you feel connected to and immersed by. When I was playing Spider-Man 2 I felt like for a brief moment I really was Spider-Man, I could zip across NYC and be completely free to traverse the world as I wished. I connected much more deeply to this version of Peter and Miles and I loved being surprised by each new change and enhancement to the game starting from the very beginning.

Its been increasingly difficult these days for me to write anything, especially since I’m going through a time in my life where I’m starting to lose interest in gaming as a hobby and passion. I guess as I get older I’m feeling like I am wasting a lot of my time putting my energy into video games as I still have not found my path in the industry. While I still love them, it may be time for me to start putting down the controller all together and just appreciate them from a distance. The hobby is getting increasingly expensive as a consumer and I just feel more and more that I have nothing to show for it. With Spider-Man 2 though, I was more than surprised as the game definitely surpassed my expectations, so it was definitely worth the money. I am so happy with my experience with the game and it will be a title I will remember for a very long time to come.
