Fortnite’s “Astronomical” Travis Scott Concert Is An Epic Special Event

I’m sure by now pretty much everyone knows about the battle royale game Fornite and who Travis Scott is, or at the very least I’m sure everyone has heard of them. This week Epic has joined forces with Travis Scott to release an in game concert show for fans and long time Fortnite players. Unfortunately I am not a fan of Fortnite. However, I am a fan of Travis Scott, and I am well aware of the game and its astounding success, as well as its special events that have lured myself and players like me to come back to the game to check out the buzz. The “Astronomical” concert is one of those events.

At first I thought “what? they’re doing a concert in game? How is this going to work?”. I was shocked and hyped at the same time. I had no clue what to expect. I also heard about the concert after the first showing and I missed that first opportunity to check it out. But I did get to view it online through some streamers who where watching it a few hours earlier. It was such an awesome spectacle that I needed to see it for myself.

Today at midnight (April 25th) I made sure my game was updated and I was in the game waiting 20 minutes before the show even started. Once it began I was blown away by what I was seeing. Witnessing a gigantic Travis Scott transform the map into a moving/ shifting set piece with each song was amazing. It was a surreal visual experience. One moment you are watching Travis sing his songs, and the next he’s slapping stars together and the stage transitions into a fiery landscape while you’re jumping and bobbing your head like he does. At some point, rainbow neon lines start flying across the screen and outlining Travis and everything around you. After that Travis begins falling backwards onto the ground, the next song starts, and the level slams you underwater as you watch him float down with his bad ass green Jordan’s and light up helmet. Next you are thrown around for a bit sliding back and forth on a neon platform, and finally you are sent up into the galaxy to watch him floating past you on a planet just before ending the concert.

While my description of what happened is poor in comparison to playing through the actual event, I have to say it was over the top and executed to perfection. Honestly I had an amazing time watching it and I wished it had been longer because I really didn’t want it to end. Being able to participate in an amazing event like this reminded me of why I love being a gamer in the first place.

Through video games we can come together and be a part of something awesome like this. Being able to participate and connect with players through music, visual presentation, and enjoying a crazy awesome moment together with each other while being across the world from one another is part of what makes gaming so special. The Travis Scott “Astronomical” concert was absolutely incredible, and moving forward I hope we get to see more events like this in other games with gigantic player bases all logging in together to participate.

If you are interested in checking out the 10 minute concert for yourself there are 2 more shows coming up later today (April 25th). One at 11am EST and again at 6PM EST. Feel free to log in and check it out. Even if you do not play Fortnite or you’re not a fan of Travis Scott, its still worth checking out the show.

Thanks for reading, have a great day!
